Building the Roads to Net Zero

At the Embassy of Estonia in Stockholm, cleantech innovators, researchers, and infrastructure leaders gathered. They aimed to explore how biomaterials can transform the future of asphalt pavements.

The Embassy of Estonia hosted the event together with Fibenol. It highlighted breakthrough research and real-world projects. These projects use lignin-based materials derived from wood residues to replace fossil-based chemicals in road construction.

RISE, Svevia, and Fibenol gave presentations. They demonstrated how collaboration across science, industry, and cities can accelerate the transition toward Net Zero infrastructure.

A powerful reminder that the road to climate neutrality is literally built with sustainable materials and Nordic innovation.

Beyond the presentations, the event brought together cities, architects, road authorities, and sustainability professionals. It emphasized that achieving Net Zero infrastructure will demand collaboration across the entire ecosystem. This includes research, policy, and implementation.

The message was clear: the transition to Net Zero is not only about energy systems. It is also about re-engineering the materials that shape our built environment.

And in the Nordics and Baltic’s, that transformation is already underway—one road at a time.

Thank you to H.E. Toomas Lukk, Ambassador of Estonia to Sweden, the Fibenol team, and all participants.
