Energy & Cleantech Solutions for Resilience
In September 2025, Lars Ling, CEO and Founder of CleanTech Region Group, participated in the Estonian Defence Week. He brought a cleantech and energy-systems perspective to one of Europe’s most innovative security and Defence gatherings.

As Defence, civil protection, and critical infrastructure become increasingly intertwined, one insight stands out: energy resilience is security resilience. These systems are essential for military readiness and emergency response. They are also crucial for data centers, hospitals, and industrial supply chains. Reliable and decentralized energy systems are now mission-critical.
Lars draws on decades of experience in Nordic cleantech, industrial energy transition, and ecosystem building. He offered a solutions-oriented view. Clean, distributed, and AI-optimized energy systems can strengthen resilience. These systems help both defense and society alike.
From energy transition to operational resilience
At Estonian Defence Week, the focus extends beyond traditional Defence technologies. It includes dual-use solutions that serve both civilian and Defence needs. These solutions feature off-grid energy, thermal systems, and smart energy management. They also include low-carbon infrastructure that can work under stress, disruption, or isolation.
Lars highlights how cleantech innovations originally developed for decarbonization are now becoming central to resilience strategies:
- Decentralized and off-grid power reduces dependency on vulnerable supply lines
- Industrial heat and energy efficiency supporting logistics, manufacturing, and base operations
- AI-enabled improvement improving reliability, predictive maintenance, and energy security
- Low-carbon systems aligning security objectives with long-term climate goals
